Black Forest Biosphere Reserve (Germany)

Located in the south of the country, this biosphere reserve contains low mountain ranges, silviculturally shaped forests, lowland and mountain hay meadows and lowland moors. The total surface area of the site is 63,325 ha, 70% of which is forested. 38,000 inhabitants are living in the area, which has been able to preserve its traditions and maintain a significant craft industry. Sustainable tourism is widely encouraged.
