Sobo, Katamuki and Okue (Japan)

This site, which is part of the Sobo-Katamuki-Okue mountain range, is characterised by precipitous mountains. Forests cover 85% of the site’s 243,672 ha total area, which is a hotspot of biodiversity in the region. The area has fewer than 100,000 inhabitants, living from farming or by exploiting forest resources, including wood production, shitake mushroom cultivation, and charcoal production.
