The first stage in the rehabilitation of cultural heritage of Timbuktu (Mali) is complete

Launched on 14 March 2014 in partnership with UNESCO, the rehabilitation work carried out on Sheik Baber Baba Idjé and Sheik Mahamane Al Fullani mausoleums of Timbuktu was just completed.

Residents of Timbuktu launched, on 14th March 2014, the reconstruction of World Heritage mausoleums damaged by the armed extremists who occupied the north and centre of Mali in 2012.

UNESCO, Malian and international experts on 11 January undertook the first assessment of damage to cultural heritage, both tangible and intangible, in Gao following the occupation by armed groups of parts of northern Mali.
