Oscar Washington Tabárez, UNESCO Champion for Sports, will present the ReachingU Award to the Uruguayan Teacher

Today Tuesday, August 27, 2019, the ReachingU Prize will be given to selected Uruguayan Teacher at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Headquarters in Uruguay.

This is the national version of the Global Teacher Prize created by the Varkey Foundation, which rewards the work of an exceptional teacher who has made an outstanding contribution in the exercise of his profession. Organized by the ReachingU Foundation, it has the institutional support of the Education Programme of the UNESCO Office in Montevideo and Socialab. The process was audited by PwC Uruguay.

The ceremony will be attended by Oscar Washington Tabárez, Coach of the Uruguayan National Soccer Team and UNESCO Champion for Sports, appointed in 2011, who will present the award to a national teacher who has developed an innovative educational project of inspiring impact in their students and community.

In addition to recognition, the chosen teacher will receive US $ 5,000, which will be used to continue, deepen or expand his educational project.

UNESCO recognizes the work of Oscar Washington Tabárez for an integral education of those citizens that he has had under his responsibility, especially in sports, through the implementation of the Tabárez Project. His work has transmitted a strong vision of human values ​​that have greatly enriched the younger generations of Uruguayan society.
