I know this is the conviction of your Foundation and of the United Arab Emirates.” The Director-General praised the UAE for its political will and leadership in promoting equal opportunities and social inclusion, educating girls and women, and promoting arts and culture.

Ms Hoda Al Khamis Kanoo, founder and artistic director of the Festival, thanked the Director-General for emphasizing the role of the arts for promoting understanding, peace and unity, noting that the Abu Dhabi festival has welcomed numerous UNESCO artists for peace over the years. “We are honoured to work closely with you on a subject that is close to my heart – literacy and education for girls and women,” emphasizing that education is the key to giving women equal opportunities and promoting their leadership.
