Actress Guila Clara Kessous nominated UNESCO Artist for Peace
Director-General Irina Bokova will nominate French actress and playwright Guila Clara Kessous as a UNESCO Artist for Peace at a ceremony to be held at UNESCO Headquarters on 17 January (6pm).
Guila Clara Kessous has produced and directed plays on human rights in France and abroad. As both playwright and actress, she has taken part is numerous theatrical performances linked to humanitarian causes, including the world premiere of “Once upon a time” by Elie Wiesel, which she also directed and was presented at the Festival of Avignon. She has also produced several short films that were presented at the Cannes Film Festival.
Guila Clara Kessous is named Artist for Peace "in recognition of her work to defend the social causes through art, and her dedication to the ideals of the Organization".
UNESCO Artists for Peace are internationally-renowned personalities who use their influence, charisma and prestige to help promote UNESCO’s message and programmes. UNESCO works with these distinguished personalities in order to heighten public awareness regarding key development issues and to inform the public what our Organization's action is in these fields.
