A current and a former member of the UNESCO 2001 Convention’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Body have been presented with an Award of Merit by the Society of Historical Archaeology. Dolores Elkin and Pilar Luna Erreguerena received the award collectively with the other prominent maritime archaeologists Toni Carrell and Margaret Leshikar-Denton on 06 January 2016 at the Plenary Session of the SHA’s 49th Annual Conference on Historical and Underwater Archaeology in Washington.

This award recognises their unwavering efforts in promoting the development, ratification and implementation of the UNESCO 2001 Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage.
