Director-General in Shenzhen to conclude UNESCO’s High-Level Forum on Museums
On 12 November, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova is taking part in the closing ceremony of UNESCO’s High-Level Forum on Museums held in Shenzen, People’s Republic of China. The Forum brings together international experts to discuss the implementation of the 2015 UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Protection and Promotion of Museums and Collections, their Diversity and their Role in Society.
This 3-days conference will be concluded in the presence of Ms Liu Yandong, Vice Premier of the People’s Republic of China, Mr Chen Baosheng, Minister of Education, Vice-Minister Hao Ping, President of the National Commission, Mayor Xu Qin of Shenzhen City, Mr Khaled El Enany, Minister of Antiquities of Egypt and Mr WU Fuqing, Board Chairman, Director of the Zhi Zhen Art Museum, as well as directors and representatives of the world’s most important museums.
The Forum aims at promoting the implementation of this new instrument among policy makers in Member States and the global museum community and at reflecting on the critical issues surrounding heritage and its role in society. The event, held from 9 to 12 November, is co-organized with the National Commission of People’s Republic of China to UNESCO, Shenzhen Municipality, Zhi Zhen Art Museum and the State Administration for Cultural Heritage (SACH) of China.
While in China, the Director-General will also have bilateral meetings with Ms Liu Yandong, M Chen Baosheng, and the Mayor of Shenzhen. The Director-General will also visit the UNESCO Center of Innovation on Higher Education at the University of Science and Technology of South of China. The visit will take place in the presence of the Director of the Center, Mr Li Ming, and the Vice-mayor of Shenzen and member of the governing board of the Center, Ms Wu Yihuan.
