Director-General meets the Premier of Quebec
This meeting took place in the framework of the International Conference on “Internet and the Radicalization of Youth: Preventing, Acting and Living together”held in Quebec, opening on 31 October. The Conference is organized by UNESCO and the Government of Quebec and with the support of the Government of Canada, in the context of the UNESCO IFAP programme.
Attending the meeting were the Representative of the Government of Quebec to UNESCO, Ms Julie Miville-Duchene and the Permanent Delegate of Canada to UNESCO, Ambassador Elaine Ayotte.
The Premier welcomed the Director-General to Quebec and thanked for the cooperation in leading this important International Conference. He underlined the importance of UNESCO for Quebec -- notably for instance in ocean science, where he proposed deeper cooperation.
The Director-General thanked the Premier for the leadership of the Government in Quebec -- pointing to the role of Montreal Centre for the Prevention of Radicalisation and the proposed new UNESCO Chair in this field. She spoke of the importance of Quebec's voice at the Organisation and also expressed her gratitude for the support to UNESCO Institute for Statistics. She welcomed the idea of deeper cooperation in the sciences, notable ocean science, looking forward to the major conference led by Fiji and Sweden on 8 June, 2017. She looked forward to taking forward the results of the international conference in close cooperation with Quebec.
In closing, the Premier highlighted again Quebec's openness to ever deeper partnership, for which Irina Bokova expressed her gratitude.
