Director-General on an official visit to Chad

On 30 March, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova started in Chad, a series of official visits in Africa, a UNESCO Global Priority, to strengthen the Organization’s cooperation with countries and societies on the continent.

On her official visit to Chad, from 30 March to 2 April, the Director-General focused on capacity-building to improve the quality of education, strengthen scientific and technological policies and promote the cultural richness in Chad. She inaugurated the centre for educational statistics, visited the National Centre for Research Support and held meetings with heads of UN agencies in Chad. 

During her visit, the Director-General highlighted the importance of a mobilization of all countries of the region, a few weeks before the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio+20.

The Director-General met with the President of the Republic of Chad Idriss Déby Itno and several government officials, including the Minister of Secondary Education and President of the Chadian National Commission to UNESCO Oumar Ben Moussa, Minister of Primary Education and Civic Education Etienne Faitchou, Minister of Higher Education Ahmet Djidda Mahamat, Minister of Environment and Fisheries Mahamat Okormi, Minister of Culture Khayar Oumar Defallah, Minister of Information and Communication and Government Spokesman Hassan Sylla Bakari and Minister for Vocational Training of Arts and Crafts Enoch Dayang Menewa.
