Director-General on Official Visit to Uruguay

From 25 to 27 June, the Director-General is traveling to Uruguay for an official visit. She is expected to meet with the President of the Republic, H.E. Mr. Tabaré Vázquez and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Rodolfo Nin Novoa.

In Montevideo, the Director-General will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Supreme Court of Justice of Uruguay to strengthen cooperation on freedom of expression, access to information and security of journalists.

The Director General will also participate in a special meeting with members of the National Commission of Uruguay at the Ministry of Education and Culture. On this same occasion, she will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Education and Culture to support reform of the country's education system, science education and projects related to cultural heritage and media education.

During the mission, Irina Bokova will visit the Fray Bentos Industrial Landscape to deliver the Certificate of Registration of UNESCO to this site, inscribed in the World Heritage List in 2015.
