Director-General takes part in UN Chief Executives Board

From 12 to 14 April, the Director-General of UNESCO Irina Bokova is in Geneva to participate in the spring session of the United Nations System Chief Executives Board (CEB), which is hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

The CEB, which is the highest-level coordination mechanism of the UN System, meets twice a year in meetings that are chaired by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon. Irina Bokova is joining the heads of 27 UN System organizations, including 10 UN Funds and programs, 15 specialized agencies, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The objective of the CEB is to align the strengths of a decentralized system of specialized organizations into a coherent and functioning whole. It ensures that the UN system delivers as one at the global, regional and country levels.

The Director-General is also taking part in the 36th meeting of the UNAIDS Committee of Cosponsoring Organizations. Gathering the Executive Heads of 10 UNAIDS co-sponsors, the meeting provides a platform to discuss financing and programmatic challenges in achieving universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support. While in Geneva, the Director-General will also chair a meeting of the Global Migration Group (GMG).
