Ecuadorian youth explore and learn about creativity

From 1 to 5 April 2013, 20 students (12 to 16 years-old) from 13 provinces of Ecuador, led by Ana Lucía González Ibañez, will gather in the city of Ibarra on the occasion of “Experiment, learn, create: UNESCO Youth Forum on Creativity”.

During the Youth Forum, the students will explore the main themes of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, including creativity, cultural expressions, cultural policies and cultural cooperation in an easily understandable and entertaining way as they play with Diversidades: the Diversity Kit for Youth. Furthermore, they will learn about the stages of the cultural cycle (creation, production, distribution, enjoyment/participation and training) through participating in three practical, hands-on workshops in audiovisual arts, spoken word and visual arts.

Aimed at encouraging participants to explore how to express through art what inspires and motivates them and engaging youth in the promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions, the Youth Forum will allow students to create and distribute their own film, theatre play and visual art work, while at the same time opening new opportunities for their creative development.

Organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Ecuador, the Spanish International Development Cooperation Agency (AECID) and the Latin Union, the UNESCO Youth Forum on Creativity is one of the many activities to implement the 2005 Convention, which Ecuador acceded to in 2006. Having been ratified already by 126 Parties, the 2005 Convention is an international binding legal instrument that ensures that artists, cultural professionals and citizens worldwide can create, produce, disseminate and enjoy a broad range of cultural goods, services and activities, including their own.
