Green Chemistry at the forefront of Director-General’s visit to St Petersburg

On 2 June, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, is traveling to St Petersburg, Russia, on the occasion of the award ceremony of the winners of the PhosAgro/UNESCO/IUPAC grants for research projects in Green Chemistry proposed by young scientists.

These grants are awarded within PhosAgro/UNESCO/IUPAC Partnership in Green Chemistry for Life that was launched by the three partners in 2013 as a follow up to the International Year of Chemistry.

The Partnership in Green Chemistry for Life is an exemplary alliance generously sponsored by the large industrial company-PhosAgro, and carried out by UNESCO in co-operation with International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). The united efforts by the three partners are focused on green chemistry, the contribution of which is nowadays indispensable for the protection of the environment and human health and for the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The award ceremony will take place within the framework of the 21st St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 21), in which the Director-General will participate alongside the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
