Internship opportunity in support of the organization of the MAB Youth Forum 2017 (Deadline: 21 July 2017)

UNESCO is currently seeking an intern to assist the Science Unit within the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, Venice (Italy), in the implementation of its activities relating to the organization of the MAB Youth Forum 2017 in the Po Delta Biosphere Reserve, Italy. Duration: 2 to 3 months approx. Dates: between August-October 2017. Deadline: 21 July 2017

Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Science Unit and the authority of Director of Office, the intern will assist the Science Unit in the organization of the MAB Youth Forum 2017, to be held in the Po Delta Biosphere Reserve, Italy, from 18-23 September 2017, in the following organizational and communication tasks:

1.    Assist in logistic arrangements related to the attendance of international participants as well as the involvement of Italian volunteers;

2.    Maintain contacts with local and national partners who will be involved in the forum;

3.    Regularly check information provided by the participants in the online consultation platform of the forum, and suggest posts to animate the debate among young participants;

4.    Help re-elaborate the inputs sent by young participants concerning the issues to be debated during the forum

5.    Back the project team in refining the moderation/facilitation methodology for smooth debates and discussions among participants in the forum;

6.    Contribute to the collation of pre-event information for the (social) media outlets;

7.    Perform other related tasks as requested by the Supervisor.

Learning Opportunities

1.   General understanding of the work and mission of a UNESCO regional office, with a special focus in the subfields of Science Programme such as the Man and the Biosphere Programme, as well as UNESCO designated sites (World Heritage Sites, Biosphere Reserves, Geoparks, Creative Cities) promoted as models of sustainable development;

2.   Knowledge and understanding of youth-related events in the framework of the MAB Lima Action Plan and the UNESCO Strategy on Youth;

3.   Hands-on experience with an international environment;

4.   Insight into issues of cooperation at regional and global levels.

Qualifications & Experience

·       Currently enrolled in a second level or master’s (or equivalent) university programme in education, sciences, technology, development studies or a related field;

·       Basic knowledge of UNESCO’s mandate, structure and activities, with special focus in the field of environmental sciences;

·       Full proficiency in English (working language for the assignment);

·       Knowledge of Italian is an asset.
