US Secretary of Education at UNESCO on 4 November to talk about education reform
Arne Duncan, the United States Secretary of Education, will give an address entitled “Keeping the Eye on the Ball! The Vision of Education Reform in the United States” at UNESCO Headquarters on 4 November (9.30 a.m. – 11 a.m, Room XII.).
The public is invited to attend the forum. Getachew Engida, Deputy Director-General of UNESCO, will present the speaker and Qian Tang, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Education, will moderate the discussion.
In his confirmation hearings, Mr Duncan, the former CEO of the Chicago Public Schools, called education "the most pressing issue facing America," adding that "preparing young people for success in life is not just a moral obligation of society" but also an "economic imperative." The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act invested nearly 100 billion in education.
