E2030 in Latin America and the Caribbean: the education that young people want

Sustainable Development Goal 4 – Education 2030, reaffirms education as a human right and a public good, and presents a renewed focus for education quality from the perspective of lifelong learning, recommending that educational systems in Latin America and the Caribbean shall be rethought.

How to go about it and what to do are questions that can only be answered collectively in view of the needs and objectives of each country. UNESCO issued a call to young people in Latin America and the Caribbean to rethink education, inviting them to take part in an open consultation process called “Tell them what you want to learn”, for the period up to 2030.

On 25 and 26 January 2017 the Education Ministers of Latin America and the Caribbean met in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in a platform for dialogue aimed at coordinating the efforts to meet the world education commitments and to agree on a common road map through which to achieve global targets. At the meeting, UNESCO presented the results of this consultation carried out among the young people of the region.
