Launch of Guidebook for Planning Education in Emergencies and Reconstruction on 5 November at UNESCO
The second edition of the “Guidebook for planning education in emergencies and reconstruction” will be launched on 5 November by UNESCO and the International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP).
Tens of millions of children are deprived of education in countries around the world hit by conflict or natural disaster. The Guidebook supports national authorities in their efforts to provide quality education to children affected by crisis. It also puts forward strategies that can help countries – such as Haiti and Pakistan - take advantage of opportunities to reform an education system. A number of practical case studies throughout the Guidebook describe how different emergency-stricken countries have addressed key challenges.
The revised edition of the Guidebook, originally published in 2006, consists of five volumes and an interactive CD-Rom.
The presentation of the Guidebook will be part of a day-long event on 5 November (10.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.) at Headquarters in Paris, organized by UNESCO and the Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE). Four other tools developed by the INEE will also be launched and discussed in workshops: the Updated INEE Minimum Standards Handbook; Guidance Notes on Teaching and Learning; Reference Guide on External Education Financing; and the Pocket Guide to Gender.
The UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) strengthens the capacity of Member States to design, plan and manage their education systems through training, research, technical assistance, networking and information-sharing.
The Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) is an open global network of over 4,000 international members working together to ensure the right to quality and safe education in emergencies and post-crisis recovery.
