Linking up African schools of journalism and community learning centres

How to create synergies and collaboration between African schools of journalism and communities media centres (CMCs) that promote local communication and information facilities ?

This is the theme of a workshop organized by UNESCO Dakar (BREDA) from 10 to 13 October 2011 in Mbodiène, Senegal.

The workshop starts off with two separate meetings on the first day.

One meeting will bring together heads of journalism schools in Africa, who earlier this year created REJA, a network of some 10 journalism schools in Africa (Réseau des Ecoles de Journalisme d’Afrique) with the support of UNESCO Dakar.

They will discuss the current set-up of the network, priority activities, partnership development, membership and responsibilities.

Explore opportunities

During the following two days all participants will get together to discuss possible partnerships between schools of journalism, CMCs and other invited partners such as development agencies and the United Nations.

“We hope for a rich debate, where people will exchange experiences on their various activities and explore opportunities for future collaboration,” says Jeanne Seck, Communication and Information Advisor in UNESCO Dakar.
