Mariana Nicolesco, UNESCO Artist for Peace, organized the 23rd edition of the Haricléa Darclée International Singing Contest which took place from 30 July to 5 August 2018 in the city of Braila in Romania.

This international competition, founded by Mariana Nicolesco in 1995, is held every year in honor of the legendary soprano Haricléa Darclée. It brings together hundreds of artists from multiple countries. This year was the occasion to celebrate the centenary of the Great Union of Romania but also to honor the memory of Gioachino Rossini 150 after his death.

This event, during which Ms Nicolesco received a Diploma of Honor and the medal of the jubilee, provided a masterclass, a conference and a gala concert. The singing masterclass brought together more than one hundred young artists; a lecture with video-projections took place in the theatre where Hariclea Darclée made her debut; finally a gala concert followed on the Danube Esplanade to which 10,000 people attended.

In her capacity as UNESCO Artist for Peace since 2005, Mariana Nicolesco works since 2005 for the promotion of musical heritage, artistic creation and dialogue between cultures.
