New Map of UNESCO Global Geoparks in LAC

The Map of UNESCO Global Geoparks in LAC

For the visibility of UNESCO Global Geoparks and in order to raise awareness on sustainable development through them, UNESCO Global Geoparks’ map in Latin American and Caribbean Region has been launched.

UNESCO Global Geoparks are single, unified geographical areas where sites and landscapes of international geological significance are managed with a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development.The bottom-up approach of combining conservation with sustainable development while involving local communities is becoming increasingly popular. At present, there are 7 UNESCO Global Geoparks existed in Latin America and Caribbean region in 6 countries.

The new UNESCO Global Geoparks map includes 7 existed UNESCO Global Geoparks in LAC containing 179 geo-sites and 54 geo-trails within their territories, along with each Geoparks own information. The map will be updated with new LAC UNESCO Global Geoparks.
