Official Visit of the Director-General to the Republic of Korea
UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova will be in Seoul from 2 to 4 February to mark the 60th anniversary of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, in the presence of Prime Minister Jung Hon-won.
The event will be the occasion to celebrate UNESCO’s dynamic partnership with the Republic of Korea, a country that arose from the devastation of war to become the world’s 13th largest economy, now supporting UNESCO’s efforts to advance education and safeguard culture across the developing world.
During the visit Mrs Bokova will meet with President Park Geun-hye, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and of Education, the speaker of the National Assembly, the Cultural Heritage Administration and a number of private sector top executives. She will deliver a lecture at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy and visit the Asia Pacific Center of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) placed under the auspices of UNESCO, and at the forefront of work on global citizenship education.
