Red and Blue Bandos of the Cuban municipality of Majagua give their consent to Inventorize their festivity

A preparatory mission to obtain the prior and informed consent of the community of Majagua, Ciego de Avila in Cuba was held from January 31 to February 3, as a follow-up of the Community-based Inventory Workshop that took place in Matanzas Province last November.

The Field Exercise, taking place within the framework of the project 'Strengthening the national capacities for the effective safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Aruba and Haiti' will consist in inventorying the rural Festivity of the Bandos Rojo y Azul.

Both the Provincial and Municipal authorities of Cultural Heritage and Casas de Cultura of Ciego de Avila and Majagua expressed their support for the implementation of the Exercise and their interest in extending the methodology.

In a meeting held with an ample representation of the Bandos, the Project's Coordinator explained the purpose of the Field Exercise, their role in it and asked for the consent of the community. The representatives of the Bandos gave their written consent and presented a sample of the musical and dancing part of the Fiesta. At the same time, they selected 5 of their members to integrate the team that will make the inventorying exercise with the support of the community, together with 6 specialists from the provinces of Guantánamo, Camagüey, Matanzas, Ciego de Avila and 2 representatives of the Comisión Nacional para la Salvaguardia del Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial (National Commission for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage) who participated in the Community-based Inventory Workshop last November.

The Field Exercise will take place from February 28 to March 5 under the supervision of facilitators María Ismenia Toledo from Venezuela and Enrique López from Mexico.
