Test the new Biodiversity Learning Kit

Cover of the new Biodiversity Learning Kit

The beta version of a new Biodiversity Learning Kit is being launched today, on the occasion of World Environment Day. The kit, which was developed by UNESCO and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), was pilot tested by secondary schools of the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).

Its content is a concrete contribution to the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity (2011-2020) and will also support the implementation of the Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development, coordinated by UNESCO.

"Biodiversity education is as much a part of science as it is of education.  As such, the UNESCO/CBD Biodiversity Learning Kit aims to demonstrate that biodiversity is the essence of life, provides essential products such as food, fibres and building materials, maintains ecosystem services such as soil fertility, and underpins societies, cultures and religion. As education is essential for the sustainable and equitable use of biodiversity and its conservation, we hope that teachers and students will find the Kit to be a very useful and interesting resource" expalined the Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences, Ms Schlegel, and the Assistant Director-General for Education, Mr Tang.

The beta version of the Biodiverity Learning Kit is now available for testing in French:

The final version will be published in English, French and Spanish by the end of the year.
