The Challenges of a Green Economy and Green Societies debate at UNESCO
“Challenges of a Green Economy and Green Societies: Attitudes, Policies, Governance” is the title of a roundtable debate that will be held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 24 May (2 to 6 p.m., Room X) as part of preparations for the Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development.
The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova and Ján Kubiš, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) will open the event. Michel Rocard, Co-President of Collegium International and former Prime Minister of France will participate, along with Danilo Türk, President of the Republic of Slovenia.
The debate is organized within the framework of UNESCO’s Future Forum series, part of the Organization’s Foresight Programme.
The issues to be raised during the roundtable debate will be at the heart of the discussions by the Preparatory Committee for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) that will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2012, 20 years after the Rio Conference which adopted Agenda 21.
