The Second Meeting of Drafting of the Global Convention on Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications takes a step forward
The second meeting of the Drafting Committee for the Global Convention on Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications was hosted by the Holy See in Rome on 19-20 September. The convention aims to facilitate academic mobility, improve quality and enhance international cooperation in higher education through the recognition of higher education qualifications at a global level.
Following the first meeting in May 2016, discussions took place on the second part of the Convention, principally the basic principles related to the assessment of qualifications, obligations of parties, implementation mechanisms and final clauses.
A third meeting will take place from 13-15 February 2017 to conclude a first draft of the Convention and discuss the modalities to be applied for regional consultations with Members States and relevant stakeholders. A fourth meeting will take place following up on the results of the consultations and to finalize the draft before its submission for discussion during the UNESCO General Conference in November 2017.
