Transparency and accountability: UNESCO’s response to the Department for International Development 2013 Multilateral Aid Review Update
The Department for International Development (DFID) has begun consultations on the Multilateral Aid Review (MAR) Update for 2013.
The objective of the Multilateral Aid Review that was conducted in 2011 was to evaluate agencies’ both on their organizational strengths and their contribution to UK development objectives, with these indices determining a score and ‘value for money’ to the UK.
In 2013, DFID will update their assessment of the Multilateral Organizations they fund with the aim of looking into areas which the MAR assessed as being priorities for reform. In UNESCO’s case, four main components were covered in the response:
- results-based management;
- continued progress in reducing administrative overheads;
- increased transparency;
- focus on value for money and cost consciousness.
UNESCO publishes its responses on each of these points in a document that shows clear and tangible results in reforming the Organization. These results are available below:
