Director-General’s Official Visit to Bolivia

From 14 to 17 June, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, will undertake an official visit to Bolivia on the occasion of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the G77 + China Group held under the theme “For a New World Order for Living Well” in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. This event will gather leaders from developing countries around the world and high-level UN representatives, including UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of G77 + China.

During her visit, the Director-General is expected to meet with several government representatives working in the fields of competence of UNESCO including the Minister of Cultures and Tourism and the Minister of Education. She is also expected to meet with rural women organizations from indigenous origins.

The Director-General is scheduled to visit the Mission of San Javier, as part of the Jesuit Missions of the Chiquitos, inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1990 and the Spiritual and Political Centre of the Tiwanaku Culture, inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2000. She will also visit the Callamarka community, which is part of the Qhapaq Ñan, a cultural itinerary that constitutes a unique physical accomplishment of the utmost importance to the history of humanity and of the continent of South America.
