UNESCO and PAMP to launch prestigious coins and medallions collection
A new, official collection of UNESCO coins and medallions will soon be available to collectors around the world, under an agreement between UNESCO and PAMP S.A. (Produits Artistiques Métaux Précieux), one of the world's leading precious metals refiners and private mints. PAMP was selected as the UNESCO partner for this project following a two-phased international tender process.
The new programme will build on the success of the World Heritage coins and medallions minted in individual countries and featuring monuments and sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List such as Venice, Saint Petersburg, Machu Picchu, Borobudur, Abu Simbel and Victoria Falls National Park/Mosi-oa-Tunya. These coins and medallions have been highly appreciated worldwide for several decades.
Through an international network of Central Banks, Mints and distributors, PAMP S.A. will coordinate, produce and distribute an official UNESCO collection of coins and medallions celebrating the Organization’s activities and achievements in education, science, culture and communication, official events, anniversaries, international days, years and decades. They will be minted in gold, silver, bronze and base metals. All coins and medallions will be presented in a web-based catalogue and made available through distribution network in participating countries.
All of UNESCO’s 195 Member States are being encouraged to join the new programme and produce coins and medallions, as part of the collection, for their country. The first ones are scheduled for release at the end of 2012.
