The ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, H.E. Mr Robert Zeldenrust, and UNESCO’s Representant for the Maghreb region and Director of UNESCO’s office in Rabat, Mr. Philippe Quéau, signed an agreement on 9 December 2011 for supporting a project with specific focus on young girls and the strengthening of their participation in consultation and decision making mechanisms, both at a national and a local level.
The project is managed by the Social and Human Sciences department of UNESCO with local national partners and aims at the reinforcement of citizenship and the participation of young people in the institutional reform process. UNESCO will organise trainings on democratic principles and human rights and will assist its partners to set up innovative participation and consultation mechanisms, closely involving young girls, via the schooling system, Internet and the communication channels (TV, Theaters, media, etc.). Young people and more specificaly young girls will effectively be stimulated and guided to participate in the decision making process at local level.
