UNESCO makes data count

GDP, population growth, life expectancy…we are surrounded by statistics that guide us in making critical decisions about the world we live in. UNESCO is marking the International Year of Statistics 2013 with a call to make data count.

Timely, accurate and comparable, data collected by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS)  supports our goal of creating a more stable and peaceful world. Our data are free and accessible to all. But what do the numbers tell us?

Data tell us how many children are out-of-school, how much countries are spending on Research and Development, or how many teachers are needed to fill classrooms.

UNESCO is making data count for the millions of children still being denied their right to education by benchmarking and monitoring global progress on education-related Millennium Development Goals and Education for All targets.

Learn more about how data are helping us understand the education needs of the most vulnerable children
