UNESCO recruits Project Officer in Cairo and National Project Officer in Tripoli
UNESCO’s Communication and Information Sector is seeking qualified candidates for the positions of Project Officer (P3) at the UNESCO Office in Cairo (international posting) and National Project Officer, NOA (candidates must be Libyan nationals) at the UNESCO Project Office in Libya (Tripoli).
The incumbents will work on the “Libyan Higher Education ICT project", which focuses on upgrading the IT infrastructure of the Libyan higher education system and harnessing modern information and communication technologies to improve teaching and learning, as well as administrative processes, in Libya. It is a self-benefitting funds-in-trust project financed by the Libyan government.
The Project Officer in Cairo will be responsible for managing project implementation, monitoring and reporting. The incumbent will be also be responsible for liaising with stakeholders in Libya and at UNESCO, enhancing the visibility of the project and preparing project documents. The National Project Officer in Tripoli will assist in the implementation of the project, especially in supervising the installation of equipment and discussing issues of project equipment with vendors and university clients. He/she will also be charged with preparing progress reports, assisting in the organization of meetings and initiating administrative action. Both the Project Officer in Cairo and National Project Officer in Tripoli will be appointed within the UNESCO contractual framework entitled “Project Appointment” and will have the same organizational benefits as regular staff, however appointments are time bound until the project is completed. The initial appointment is for one year, including a six-month probationary period, with possible extension, depending on performance evaluation by the supervisor. The assignment is expected to last 24 months, which is the length of the project.
