In the aim of promoting UNESCO’s goals among Chinese internet users and beyond, the Director-General signed an agreement with Panshi, one of the country’s largest IT companies, during her visit to Hangzhou on 15 May. It is the first time that UNESCO seals an agreement with a Chinese software company.

“I hope that by signing this agreement, we will tap strong synergies and that you will be able to bring us your ingenuity, new technological solutions and social media outreach to help us share UNESCO’s message across China,” said Irina Bokova upon signing the agreement during a short boat ride along the Hangzhou canal.

The agreement identifies several areas for joint cooperation, including translation of UNESCO’s full website into Chinese, technical and internet infrastructure support, promotion of the Organization’s programs through social media and digitalization of its video, photo and audio contents.

“Signing the agreement on the Canal is an auspicious sign for our future cooperation, because water symbolizes fortune, good luck and great development in our culture,” said Panshi’s Chairman and CEO of Information Technology Corp Mr. Tian Ning. “We are happy to contribute our service and technology to UNESCO, to help you better serve the world in terms of sustainable development, education, science and culture.”

Mr. Zeng Yumin, President of the Federation of Private Enterprise Development in Zhejiang province, said that growth is “not only about material resources but also acting with the heart… We are happy to contribute to advancing UNESCO’s goals in China and globally.”
