Asia-Pacific Culture Ministers Forum on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, 9-11 May 2012

@ Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh

The Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh is hosting a Forum for the Asia-Pacific region, bringing together Ministers and high level policy makers from 44 countries.

The Forum is receiving support from the International Fund for Cultural Diversity established under the UNESCO 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

The Forum – the first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region – aims to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cultural cooperation between countries in the region, encourage further ratification and implementation of the 2005 Convention at the country level. It will also provide an opportunity to clarify key concepts and objectives of the 2005 Convention, facilitate a substantial exchange of experiences on implementation initiatives undertaken in different Asia-Pacific countries, and explore the concrete benefits of ratification.

The 2005 Convention is a legally-binding international agreement that ensures artists, cultural professionals, practitioners and citizens worldwide can create, produce, disseminate and enjoy a broad range of cultural goods, services and activities, including their own. Adopted in 2005 and entered into force in 2007, it has so far been ratified by 122 Parties (as of 2 May 2012).
