Bolivia to host the 10th Conference on Cooperation Regarding Special Education and Inclusive Education
The Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, along with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), and the collaboration of OREALC/UNESCO Santiago and the Organisation of Ibero-American States (OEI), has organised the 10th Conference on Cooperation Regarding Special Education and Inclusive Education, framed within the Educational Cooperation Programme with Ibero-America.
The conference will take place from 21-25 October 2013, at the AECID Training Centre in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, and it will focus its work on accessibility and the educational assessment of students with disabilities. Within the scope of the Ibero-American Intergovernmental Technical Cooperation Network for the Education of People with Special Educational Needs (RIINEE), the event will include the exchange of experiences, a plenary session and the presentation of proposals for collaborative action in 2014.
In this regard, Paz Portales, the Programme Coordinator of OREALC/UNESCO Santiago, explained that, “to guarantee the right to education, understood as the ‘right to learn’, implies that said education is one of quality and accessible to all. In order to achieve this, we must have inclusive schools that serve all students and their diversities, that is, all students independent of their social and ethnic origin, religion, capacities and abilities”. She also added that, “schools must ensure that all students learn and are able to reach their maximum potential, realise their life project and contribute to the development of their communities”.
The 10th Conference will specifically address the challenges faced by educational systems that serve children with special educational needs in their attempt to develop the basic skills required by these students in order to participate as active and responsible citizens, thus granting them the opportunity to live fully.
The conference is framed within the work begun in 2004, with the celebration of the 1st Conference and the creation of the RIINEE.
The members of RIINEE include Latin American Ministries or Departments of Education through their areas responsible for special education and attention to diversity. The Conference is directed towards the representatives of these areas that may or may not belong to the RIINEE.
