The High Level Seminar on Inclusive Cities Cities

The High Level Seminar on Inclusive Cities, Social Inclusion, and Promotion of Rights of Persons with Disabilities: High Level Seminar on Inclusive Cities was organized by UNESCO, ILO, WHO and APEKSI (Association of Indonesian Municipalities) to showcase the results of the UN project on Promoting the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD) in Indonesia, and to chart the future for the Network of Mayors for Inclusive Cities.

The Seminar featured Mayors from across the country presenting the policies and initiatives that enable positive transformations in their cities. The Seminar also generated an exchange between the national and city authorities about effective ways to engage the cities in the realization of Indonesia’s SDG framework, implementing the national law on disability, and replicating good practices in disability inclusion in cities throughout the country.

UNESCO, in partnership with ILO and WHO, has been working with the Indonesian government to promote social inclusion of persons with disabilities. Funded by the UN Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD, phase II), and developed through the UNCT Human Rights Working Group, the joint project has made significant contribution to the national and local efforts towards disability inclusion. The Background Document indicates the main achievements of this effort to date.
