Director-General meets the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria
On 13 January, the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, undertook a working visit to Bulgaria, where she held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Christian Vigenin. The two explored the state of cooperation between the Organization and Bulgaria and underlined the need to take it forward. Christian Vigenin reconfirmed the strong commitment of Bulgarian institutions to the ideals and goals of UNESCO.
The Director-General also took part in the annual meeting of the bureau of the National Commission of Bulgaria for UNESCO. Addressing deputy ministers and chairpersons of parliamentary commissions in attendence, she remarked on the importance of ensuring fruitful interaction between the Organization and respective ministries.
Irina Bokova highighted the necessity of preserving culture, providing quality education and developing new technologies for sustainable development as well as upholding basic human values, like tolerance and respect for human dignity.
