Director-General’s official visit to Benin

The Director-General of UNESCO Irina Bokova was on an official visit to the Republic of Benin from 8 to 10 June. During this visit, she met the President of the Republic Thomas Boni Yayi, current President of the African Union and several government officials, including the Minister of Preschool and Primary Education Eric N’Dah, who is also the President of the National Commission to UNESCO. The Director-General also met the UN Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team.

The Director-General visited the School of African Heritage, a postgraduate university institution specialized in the preservation and promotion of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Located in Porto-Novo, it trains heritage professionals from 26 sub-Saharan African countries.

The Director-General also visited the Songhai Centre, a non-governmental organization created in 1985 for training, production, and research in the field of sustainable agriculture.
