Director-General's official visit to Oman

On 16 December, the Director-General, Irina Bokova, met with Mr. Abdel Aziz Al Rawas, the Advisor of Cultural Affairs to Sultan Qaboos, and discussed the cooperation between the Sultanate and UNESCO in the field of Culture.

Mr. Rawas emphasized the significance of dialogue between cultures and the importance of World Heritage. The Director-General met with His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, with whom discussions focused on the recent political events in the Arab world. The exchanges centered also on the priorities of UNESCO, which are shared by the Sultan. The Sultan highlighted the importance of education as the basis of development and requested the Director-General’s assistance in reforming curricula and educational policies for domestic development in order to advance the educational agenda of the Sultanate. The Sultan further highlighted the importance of girls’ education and youth inclusion to build an inclusive society.
