Fighting the illicit traffic of cultural property. UNESCO video is now available in the Turkish language
The UNESCO Venice Office 15’ video on sensitization and awareness-raising on the fight against the illicit traffic of cultural property is now available in Turkish, and directly accessible on our YouTube channel. The video is also available in English and in other 9 languages from South East Europe: Albanian, Bulgarian, Bosnian, Croatian, Macedonian, Montenegrin, Romanian, Serbian and Slovenian.
The video puts the emphasis on issues specific to the region (such as the fight against looting of religious heritage, the need for training, capacity-building, and sharing of information mechanisms); shows images of famous and valuable stolen and recuperated objects; promotes the value of all types of movable cultural properties; and, increases awareness of the wider public on the importance of their contribution to the appropriate management and protection of their cultural heritage.
The video also features interviews by Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO; Karl-Heinz Kind, Coordinator, Works of Art Unit, INTERPOL; Elena Korka, Director for the Documentation and Protection of Cultural Goods, Ministry of Culture, Greece; Colonnello Raffaele Mancino, Division for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, Comando dei Carabinieri -Tutela Patrimonio Culturale, Italy; Bianka Perčinić-Kavur, Chief of Department for Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture, Croatia; Despo Pilides, Curator of Antiquities, Ministry of Communications and Works, Cyprus.
This video was produced for the general public to show the different dimensions of illicit traffic in South-East Europe, promote regional and international cooperation, and mobilize public opinion. It complements a wide range of communication and awareness-raising tools realized by UNESCO, at international level (videos, clips, educational kits, exhibitions, publications, etc.).
