First Secretary of USA permanent delegation visits OREALC/UNESCO Santiago

On December 9, 2013, Scott Turner, First Secretary of the United States Mission to UNESCO, visited the Regional Office of Education for Latin America and the Caribbean. On the occasion, meetings with experts were held to share the work the Bureau does and discuss the strategic plan of action of UNESCO Santiago in the region.

Jorge Sequeira, Director of UNESCO Santiago, made a presentation on the Education Challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean towards 2015 and post-2015”, and Atilio Pizarro, Section Chief for Planning, Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, talked about “Quality Education: main challenge in LAC”.

 Also, Paz Portales, Regional Programme Coordinator, explained the “Regional Strategy on Teachers in LAC” and Astrid Hollander, Programme Specialist, shared the goals of “Education for Sustainable Development”.

Scott Turner explained that “UNESCO Santiago, being the leader for the work in Latin America and the Caribbean, is helping me and the mission to see what is being done and done so well”. He added that “The hard work is being done in the field (…) we are looking forward to bring back to Paris the exciting work being done in the Santiago Office”.
