Irina Bokova hails the role of UNESCO National Commissions in Euro-Arab Dialogue during conference in Oman
On 23 January 2011, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova opened the Second meeting of the Task Force of National Commissions for UNESCO for Euro-Arab Dialogue Conference in Muscat, Oman. Secretaries general from twelve countries took part in the meeting, along with representatives from ISESCO, the Council of Europe, UNESCO Cataluña Center and Al Jaber Foundation.
In her address, the Director-General underscored the role of National Commissions in helping UNESCO build international cooperation through education, science, culture, and communication and information.
Recalling her strong commitment to strengthen UNESCO's cooperation with its National Commissions, Irina Bokova emphasized the importance of the Euro-Arab Dialogue in fostering tolerance and mutual respect.
The Director-General also visited Oman’s Jabrin Castle as well as the Bahla Fort, which is inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 1987. During the visit, she discussed the Fort’s management plan and renovation with the Waly of Bahla.
