Irina Bokova speaks about education funding at the WISE in Doha, Qatar
“The costs of insufficient funding for education today will be high for generations to come. Decisions we take now, lay the foundations for the century ahead. Chinese wisdom is worth remembering here: “If you are planning for a lifetime, educate people”, stated UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova in her keynote speech at the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) 2010, meeting in Doha from 7 to 9 December.
Addressing the plenary session of the WISE, Irina Bokova highlighted the need for governments to invest out of the economic crisis through education and develop a culture of results in a bid to reach the Millennium Development Goals and sustain progress beyond them. She also noted that new resources will have to be found through innovative mechanisms to complement traditional forms of financing.
