New MOOC on Water – Addressing the Global Crisis

On 14 January, SIWI will release a massive open online course (MOOC) in collaboration with the UN’s SDG Academy. The title of the course is “Water: addressing the global crisis”.

WWAP experts were filmed during the 2018 World Water Week, to bring their knowledge on water resources management to this course.

Their speeches focused on Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) on water and sanitation, and its interlinkages with other SDG targets and indicators of the Agenda 2030 (read more on the SDG 6 Synthesis Report 2018); also the linkages between water and ecosystems were explored, since the World Water Development Report 2018 demonstrates how working with nature can help to improve water resources management, offering real-life examples of nature-based solutions for water.

In addition, the untapped potential of wastewater has been presented, as an important topic recognized by the 2030 agenda; the World Water Development Report 2017 on wastewater demonstrates that improved wastewater management generates social, environmental and economic benefits essential for sustainable development.

The free course aims at improving the understanding of how water influences our lives and livelihoods to build the competence needed to navigate the “new normal”.
