New UNESCO Director-General gives first speech on education and innovation
The new Director-General of UNESCO, Ms Irina Bokova, is making her first public speaking engagement at the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) taking place in Doha, Qatar from November 16 to 18.
Ms Bokova is Guest of Honour at the summit launched by the Qatar Foundation and which draws together 1000 influential education experts, leaders and decision-makers from 120 countries around the theme Global Education: Working Together for Sustainable Achievements.
Through an exchange of experiences and success stories WISE will work to identify new education techniques, players and technologies that enhance human capacity.
A series of plenary sessions will address the following themes: Pluralism – education to build respect and increase access and equalities, Sustainability in education systems, funding and governance and; Innovation in content, access and delivery.
The summit, the first of its kind, will also feature a ceremony on November 17 to present the six Laureates of the WISE awards, given for outstanding practice and achievements around the three themes.
An official welcome address will be given by Her Highness Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned, Chairperson of the Qatar Foundation and UNESCO Special Envoy for Basic and Higher Education.
