The report monitors the status of science around the world every five years. This latest edition observes that
- ‘African countries have begun to recognize that, without investment in science and technology (S&T),
- the continent will stay on the periphery of the global knowledge economy. Some countries are taking steps to establish a national innovation system ,in an approach generally borrowed
- from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).’ The level of investment in S&T nevertheless remains low in most African countries.
