Regional Memory of the World Committee Meets in Barbados

On the 4-6 October 2006, the Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Memory of the World Committee (CRLAC/MOW) will meet in Barbados to discuss issues surrounding the enhancement of the Regional MOW Programme.

The meeting is being organized with the support of the Government of Barbados and the UNESCO Office for the Caribbean.

 

This is the 7th meeting of CRLAC/MOW since its establishment in Pachuca, Mexico - 2000 and will include observers from other relevant Caribbean institutions as well as UNESCO National Commissions in Barbados, Dominica and St. Lucia.

 

CRLAC/MOW will explore strategies to streamline the Regional and National MOW Registers and increase the awareness of the MOW Programme with a view to boosting submission from LAC to the International MOW Register.

 

During the meeting there will be a presentation of the on-going project entitled, "Caribbean Inventory of Documentary Heritage". This inventory includes collections of some of the most valuable documentary heritage from each Caribbean country, which are selected by their National Libraries. This project is coordinated by the Jamaica National Library with the support of UNESCO.

 

There will also be presentations and discussions on LAC's nominations to the International MOW Register.

 

Other presentation will include: "Preservation of the Documentary Heritage in the case of Disasters" and "Case Study on Jamaica Audio Visual Information Network" as well as reports on other national and regional MOW projects.
