Strengthening the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Eastern Cuba
Intangible heritage specialists and bearers from the five Cuban Eastern provinces (Las Tunas, Holguín, Granma, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo) and the Province of Camagüey will participate in a capacity building workshop on the implementation of the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The event will take place in Santiago de Cuba, 11-14 February 2014.
The workshop is funded by the Intangible Cultural Heritage Fund thanks to the generous contributions of the Kingdom of Norway. It is being organised by the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean, in collaboration with the Cuban National Commission for UNESCO, the Cuban National Council of Cultural Heritage and the Office of the Conservator in Santiago de Cuba within the framework of the programme Strengthening national capacities for effective safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage in Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Its facilitators will be two experts from Colombia (Adriana Molano) and from Mexico (Francisco Lopez Morales).
The four day Workshop has a programme on the topics of the Convention, its key concepts and how to inventory. It will also include a technical visit to the previous Oral and Intangible Masterpiece "La tumba francesa de la Caridad de Oriente", which is part of the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2003.
