Turkey: International Seminar on Nasreddin Hodja Studies and Roundtable Discussion about the Preparation of the Multinational Nomination File of Nasreddin Hodja Anecdotes Tradition
On 7-8 May 2013 the “International Seminar on Nasreddin Hodja Studies and Roundtable Discussion about the Preparation of the Multinational Nomination File of Nasreddin Hodja Anecdotes Tradition” was held in Eskişehir, Turkey. The meeting was organized by Turkish National Commission, together with Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Governorship of Eskişehir and with the participation of experts from 28 countries.
The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the current situation of the tradition in countries from various regions and to evaluate the possibility of preparation of a multinational file.
Experts from Afghanistan, Albania, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, China, Egypt, Georgia, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, , Pakistan, Poland, Republic of Moldova, Morocco, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Tajikistan, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Yemen made presentations on the tradition and discussed the possibility of preparing a multinational nomination file.
The event was organized within the celebrations of 10th anniversary of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and on the occasion of Proclamation of an international decade for the rapprochement of cultures (2013-2022)” adopted at the 36th Session of the General Conference of UNESCO.
The event was one of the celebrations held in Eskişehir, Turkish capital of the intangible cultural heritage, proclaimed on the 6th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
