UNESCO Director-General expresses her deep sorrow at the death of Cape Verdean singer Cesaria Evora
“With the death of Cesaria Evora, the world has lost a great singer, the carrier of a soft and passionate voice for Africa and the rapprochement of cultures.
This ‘barefoot diva’ had graced the stage of UNESCO for the last time in 2009 on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Felix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize. Her death in 2011, the United Nations International Year for People of African Descent, is also an appeal to pass on her message”.
